AFC Championship Game Betting Preview

The road to Super Bowl 54 goes through Kansas City on Sunday, as the Kansas City Chiefs host the Tennessee Titans in the AFC championship game.

At Bovada Sportsbook, the Chiefs are a 7.5-point favorite. The Chiefs advanced to the conference championship by defeating the Houston Texans 51-31 as a 10-point favorite last week. The win was the Chiefs’ seventh straight both straight up and against the spread. It was also their fifth straight win at home SU and ATS, and sixth win in a row as a favorite SU and ATS.

Kansas City favored by 7.5 points over Tennessee

Last week’s win also helped the Chiefs continue to put some awful playoff history behind them. Including last week’s victory, Kansas City is 3-12 SU and ATS in its last 15 playoff games. At home in the postseason, the Chiefs are 2-7 SU and ATS in their last nine, and they’re 2-9 ATS in their last 11. Even as a playoff favorite, the Chiefs had previously been a letdown at 3-6 SU in their last nine and 3-8 ATS in their last 11.

Tennessee’s amazing run continued last week when the Titans shocked the Baltimore Ravens 28-12 as a 10-point underdog. That was their third straight win SU and ATS, and they’re 7-2 SU and ATS in their last nine. On the road, Tennessee has won five straight SU and ATS, and as a road underdog they’re 4-2 SU and ATS in their last six.

Titans have thrived vs Chiefs in underdog role

In the playoffs, the Titans are 3-1 SU and ATS in their last four, all as the underdog. On the road in the playoffs, Tennessee is 5-2 ATS in its last seven. For totals bettors, the Titans are 7-1 UNDER in their last eight playoff games.

The Chiefs and Titans met up in Kansas City in Week 10 and Tennessee delivered a 35-32 upset win as a 5.5-point underdog. They also clashed two seasons ago in the playoffs when the Titans upset the Chiefs 22-21 as an 8.5-point road underdog.

Including those two wins, the Titans have won four straight against the Chiefs, all as the underdog. In Kansas City, the Titans have won three in a row SU and ATS, and they’re 5-1 SU in their last six and 6-1 ATS in their last seven.
