Final Sweep of Super Bowl XLIX Prop Bets

With Super Bowl XLIX kickoff fast approaching the time for homeworking Super Bowl prop bets is getting short. So here's one last look at the Super Bowl XLIX prop pages at the online sportsbooks.

New England head coach Bill Belichick will go down as one of the great grumps of all time; he rarely expresses any emotion, win or lose, on or off the sidelines, at least within range of a camera. Maybe that's why bettors can get a price of +140 at Bovada on the chance the TV cameras catch Belichick smiling at some point during the game Sunday.

Announcer Al Michaels has shown over the years he's no stranger to the thoughts and feelings of the sports bettor. Especially when doing Monday Night Football games, Michaels has been known to dot his on-air conversation with “interesting” tidbits, at appropriate times. Michaels probably isn't under any orders not to say anything, but the NFL surely doesn't encourage it. Nonetheless, Bovada is offering +150 on the possibility Michaels refers to the point spread, the total, any odds or proposition bets during the game.

Belichick is in his 15th season as head coach at New England. But do you know who he replaced in that position, back in 2000? It was Pete Carroll, the current coach of the Seahawks. Carroll went 27-21 in three seasons as the head man with the Patriots, then got fired. He of course later went on to win a bunch of games at USC, including a (tainted) college national championship, before returning to the NFL with Seattle in 2010.

Bovada is listing a price of -200 that this fact will be mentioned on the telecast during the game.

Did you know there exists a measurement that can determine which home base loves its team most? Or at least it comes close. It's called the Nielsen ratings, and we'll find out Sunday the answer to the question; Boston or Seattle? Bovada is listing the Seattle region as a -150 favorite to catch the higher Nielsen Super Bowl rating, with Boston getting +110 as the underdog.

Finally, Bovada is offering a prop parlay on a Super Bowl/Groundhog Day outcome. About 10 hours or so after the conclusion of Super Bowl 49 Punxsutawney Phil will be dragged out of his hole in rural Pennsylvania to make his prognostication concerning the impending arrival of spring.

If the Patriots win the Super Bowl, and Phil sees his shadow Monday morning (indicating six more weeks of winter), Bovada will pay out on this prop at a price of +220; if New England wins and Phil doesn't see his shadow (indicating an early spring), Bovada will pay +275. If the Seahawks win and Phil predicts six more weeks of winter, the payout will be +225; and if Seattle wins and Phil calls for an early spring, bettors will cash in at +275.
