Jets Host Hot Houston on MNF

After one of their most embarrassing performances of recent memory – and there have been a few – the New York Jets hope for a little better showing when they host the 4-0 Houston Texans on this week's edition of Monday Night Football (8:30 pm ET, ESPN).

It's last time out New York got clobbered by the San Francisco 49ers 34-0 at MetLife Stadium. And that score could have been worse.

San Fran missed on a couple of first-half scoring opportunities, and passed on one late in the game when QB Colin Kaepernick slid down on the Jets 3-yard-line instead of rubbing it in.

For the game last Sunday New York allowed 245 yards rushing, managed just 145 yards of offense itself and turned the ball over four times.

So going into Monday night New York, at 2-2, sits in second place in the AFC East, a half-game back of first-place New England.

As if dealing with undefeated Houston won't be tough enough, over the last two weeks the Jets have lost two key players, one from each side of the ball, for the season to injuries.

CB Darrelle Revis went down two weeks ago vs. Miami with a torn-up knee, and WR Santonio Holmes pulled ligaments in his foot vs. San Francisco. So New York is operating short-handed, especially the receiving corps.

On the other side of Monday night's matchup Houston opened its season with a 30-10 win over Miami, beat Jacksonville 27-7, beat the Broncos in Denver 31-25 and last Sunday got to 4-0 with a 38-14 victory over Tennessee.

The Texans rank seventh in the league in rushing at 137 YPG, lead the league in total defense by allowing just 273 YPG, and are 4-0 ATS.

As far as the betting on Monday's game goes, most online bookmakers opened New York as a seven-point home underdog, but as of Monday morning the Jets were getting as many as nine points at several NFL betting outlets.

These two teams last met two seasons ago, the Jets coming away with a 30-27 victory on a Sanchez-to-Holmes TD pass in the last half-minute.
