MLB Betting: Red Sox on the Road at Orioles

The Boston Red Sox are expected to be listed as road favorites at betting sites for Tuesday night when they continue a three-game series with the Baltimore Orioles.

The Red Sox entered the series 6-1 in their last seven games. The were also 2-6 in their last eight games as a home underdog and 3-11 in their last 14 heading into Monday night.

The scheduled pitching matchup for Tuesday had been David Price (1-2, 3.75 ERA) for Boston and David Hess (1-4, 5.34 ERA) for Baltimore, but Price has been placed on the injured list with an elbow ailment. A replacement announcement will come on Tuesday.

Hess faced the White Sox in his last start, a no-decision in which he allowed four runs in 4 1-3 innings. Baltimore won 5-4 as a +165 underdog at the Bovada Sportsbook. Hess faced Boston on April 17 and took the loss after giving up three runs on six hits in 5 2-3 innings in a 6-4 loss as a +220 underdog.

Boston and Baltimore split a four-game series back in April. Despite that split the Red Sox were 8-3 in their last 11 games versus the Orioles and 13-1 in their last 14 games in Baltimore heading into the week.

Cardinals host Phillies in pick'em Tuesday matchup

In the National League on Tuesday night the standout matchup is the Philadelphia Phillies at the St. Louis Cardinals, with the betting line a near pick'em at sportsbooks.

The Phillies will send ace Aaron Nola (2-0, 5.06 ERA) to the mound Tuesday, and St. Louis will counter with Dakota Hudson (2-2, 4.80 ERA).

Nola is coming off a no-decision against the Detroit Tigers in which he allowed one run on seven hits in 5 2-3 innings. Philadelphia won 7-3 as a -240 favorite at betting sites in that contest. In four career starts against the Cardinals Nola is 2-2 with a 2.84 ERA.

Hudson was a hard-luck loser against Washington in his last start after allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits in six innings. St. Louis lost 3-1 as a +143 underdog. This will be the first career start against Philadelphia for the 24-year-old Hudson.

Philadelphia entered this series on Monday with a 6-2 record in their last eight games, while St. Louis had lost four straight following a sweep at the hands of the Chicago Cubs. Last season the Phillies were 4-3 in seven games against the Cardinals. However, in St. Louis the Cardinals entered this series at 7-2 in their last nine versus the Phillies.
