NFL Preseason Week 2 Odds and Trends

Those betting on favorites will be hoping for a little more stability in Week 2 of the NFL preseason. In Week 1 the favorites were a tough bet, posting a 9-7 record straight up and an 8-7-1 mark against the spread.

Week 2 begins Thursday night with the Atlanta Falcons hosting the New York Jets as a 1.5-point favorite at the Bovada Sportsbook.

Atlanta continues to be one of the worst bets in the preseason after dropping its first two games on the current exhibition slate. That included a loss to the Denver Broncos in the Hall of Fame Game and a 34-27 loss to the Miami Dolphins last week as a 4-point underdog. Overall the Falcons have lost 10 in a row SU and 12 straight ATS in the preseason.

The Jets lost to the New York Giants 31-22 as a 2.5-point favorite in Week 1. The Jets have now dropped four in a row in the preseason, both SU and ATS.

Last year in the preseason the Jets blanked the Falcons 17-0 as a 4-point favorite. New York has won its last three preseason matchups with Atlanta SU and ATS.

Cardinals betting favorites hosting the Raiders

Also on Thursday night the Arizona Cardinals host the Oakland Raiders with both sides coming off a Week 1 preseason win. At the Bovada Sportsbook the Cardinals are a 3-point favorite.

Arizona defeated the Los Angeles Chargers 17-13 as a 3-point favorite last week to improve to 4-1 SU and ATS in its last five preseason games. As a preseason favorite the Cardinals are 5-1 SU and ATS in their last six.

The Raiders have won three straight SU and ATS in the preseason after defeating the Los Angeles Rams 14-3 as a 4.5-point favorite last week. However, as a preseason underdog the Raiders have been a bad wager. Oakland is 1-4 SU and ATS in its last five as a preseason underdog and 3-11 ATS in its last 14.

On Saturday the Dallas Cowboys visit the Los Angeles Rams as a 2-point road favorite.

Dallas is on a five-game preseason losing streak after a 17-9 loss to the San Francisco 49ers last week as a 3.5-point underdog. Being listed as the favorite this week doesn’t bode well for Dallas, as the Cowboys are 1-4-1 ATS in their last six preseason games as the favorite, and 4-11-1 ATS in their last 16.

The Rams are 2-5 SU and ATS in their last seven preseason games following their 14-3 loss to Oakland last week. At home in the preseason the Rams are 5-1 SU and 3-1-1 ATS in their last six and they’ve won five straight as a home underdog.
