NFL Preseason Week 3 Odds and Trends

It was another rough week for favorites bettors during Week 2 of the NFL preseason. Favorites went .500 straight up at 8-8, but they completely tanked against the spread at 5-10-1.

Week 3 begins Thursday night with one of the preseason’s best bets, the Baltimore Ravens, visiting the Philadelphia Eagles. At Bovada Sportsbook, the Ravens are a 4.5-point road favorite.

Baltimore has won 15 straight in the preseason with a 13-2 record ATS. Over the Ravens’ last 30 preseason games, they’re a money-making 22-8 ATS.

The Eagles defeated the Jacksonville Jaguars 24-10 as a 2.5-point underdog last week, but they’re still only 2-5 SU and ATS in their last seven preseason contests. However, at home in the preseason, the Eagles are 10-2 SU and ATS in their last 12.

In the last six preseason matchups between Baltimore and Philadelphia, the Eagles are 4-2 SU and ATS.

Falcons have lost 13 straight preseason games ATS

Also on Thursday night, the Washington Redskins are 3-point road favorites when they take on the Atlanta Falcons.

Following a 23-13 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals as a 2.5-point favorite last week, Washington has lost four in a row SU and ATS in the preseason. As a preseason road favorite, Washington is a lackluster 2-5 ATS in its last seven.

Atlanta continues to be horrible in the preseason after falling to the New York Jets 22-10 as a 2.5-point favorite last week. Atlanta has now lost its last 11 preseason games straight up and 13 in a row ATS. At home, the Falcons have lost seven straight preseason games ATS.

Vikings big favorites at home vs Cardinals

Looking ahead to Saturday, the Minnesota Vikings are a large 7-point home favorite vs the Arizona Cardinals.

Minnesota defeated the Seattle Seahawks 25-19 as a 3-point favorite last week. That was the Vikings’ fourth straight preseason win, during which they are 3-1 ATS. When favored by 7 points or more in the preseason, the Vikings are 7-0 SU and 2-5 ATS in their last seven.

Arizona was a 1.5-point favorite last week in a 33-26 loss to the Oakland Raiders. In the 2014 preseason, the Cardinals lost to the Vikings 30-28 as a 5.5-point underdog.

Colts, Bears battle for first preseason win

Finishing off our look at Week 3, two winless teams square off when the Indianapolis Colts host the Chicago Bears as a 4-point favorite on Saturday.

The Colts have lost both of their preseason games as the favorite this season. In their last 11 preseason games at home, they’re 2-9 SU and ATS.

Chicago has lost three straight in the preseason both SU and ATS. The Bears are 2-6 SU and 3-5 ATS in their last eight preseason games, but against the Colts in the preseason, they have won five straight at 4-1 ATS.
