Rocket Mortgage Classic Betting Odds Preview

The PGA heads to Michigan this week for the Rocket Mortgage Classic at the Detroit Golf Club.

Last week in the Travelers Championship, Dustin Johnson posted his first win of the season. Johnson shot 19 under par, good enough for a one-stroke win over Kevin Streelman.

Neither Johnson nor Streelman is in this week’s field. The top finisher from last week that will be in Detroit this week is Will Gordon, who tied for third. Gordon is a +10000 underdog at Bovada Sportsbook to post his first career win.

DeChambeau favored to win second edition of Rocket Mortgage Classic

If you’re hoping to base your picks on tournament history this week, you’re out of luck. This is only the second year for the Rocket Mortgage Classic after it was added to the tour last season. The winner of the inaugural Rocket Mortgage Classic was Nate Lashley. He shot 25 under par last year to win by six strokes over runner-up Doc Redman. At Bovada, Redman is getting better odds to win this year at +4000, compared to +20000 odds for Lashley to repeat.

The favorite at Bovada this week is Bryson DeChambeau at +650. He hasn’t posted a win since the tour return from hiatus, but he has been one of the more consistent golfers. Last week, he tied for sixth at the Travelers Championship to post his third straight top-eight finish.

Following DeChambeau on the Bovada odds list are Webb Simpson at +1100, Patrick Reed and Tyrrell Hatton, both at +1600, and Hideki Matsuyama at +1800.

FedExCup standings leader Simpson second on oddsboard

Simpson withdrew from the Travelers Championship last week after one of his family members tested positive for COVID-19. A week earlier he was on top of the leaderboard and won the RBC Heritage for his third win of the season. With three wins, it is no surprise that he’s leading the FedExCup standings.

After missing the cut at the RBC Heritage, Reed rebounded a bit last week at the Travelers Championship where he ended up tied for 24th. Reed played in the Rocket Mortgage Classic last year and he finished tied for fifth place.

Hatton has only played in one tournament since the tour resumed. He challenged for the top of the leaderboard at the RBC Heritage and tied for third place, two shots back of Simpson. Hatton may not be the most well-known name outside hard-core golf fans, but he rightly should be with one win and four top-six finishes in six tournaments this season.
