Sports Betting Week: NL East Clash on Tap

National League East rivals clash in an important series early this week as the New York Mets take on the Washington Nationals. The Nationals begin the three-game series with a three-game lead on the Mets in the division. They’re also slumping horribly with only one win in their last eight games.

So far this season the Mets and Nationals have met six times and have split the season series 3-3. For totals bettors the OVER was 4-2 in those games. At home the Nationals are 2-1 against the Mets this season and 7-3 in their last 10. The OVER trend carries over to games in Washington between the Mets and Nationals at 8-1-1 OVER in the last 10.

In the American League the surging Houston Astros will try to keep their hot streak going when they visit the Los Angeles Angels. Before losing on Sunday the Astros had won seven straight and nine of their last 10. The Angels snapped a six-game losing streak on Sunday with a win over the Oakland Athletics. Houston has owned the Angels so far this season, having won five in a row against them.

In Interleague play Bay Area rivals meet again when Oakland faces off against the San Francisco Giants. After winning 13 of their last 15 games the Giants now have the most wins in the NL. This is the first meeting between the A’s and Giants this season, but last year San Francisco was 5-1 against them. At home the Giants are 5-1 in their last six versus Oakland and 16-3 in their last 19.

The PGA Tour does double duty this weekend with two tournaments on the schedule.

Up first is the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone. Shane Lowry is the defending champion of this event but a +3500 underdog at top sportsbook Bovada to repeat. Jason Day is the favorite at +550, followed by Dustin Johnson at +700 and Jordan Spieth at +900.

The other PGA event this week is the Barracuda Championship at Montreux. J.J. Henry won the Barracuda for the second time last year, but he’s a +10,000 longshot to repeat at Bovada. The co-favorites are Brendan Steele and Gary Woodland both at +1200.
