Sports Betting Week: O's Hosting Red Sox

Division rivals square off in an important series for the American League East and the AL Wild Card standings when the Baltimore Orioles play host to the Boston Red Sox in one of the top betting matchups of the week ahead.

In 10 previous games this season the Orioles hold a slim advantage over Boston at 6-4. Baltimore heads into the series after taking two of three from the San Francisco Giants but they’re 3-4 in their last seven games. Boston is coming off a three-game sweep over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

The Orioles are 9-3 in their last 12 home games against Boston and 8-3 in their last 11 home games overall. For totals bettors the Orioles have gone UNDER the posted total in their last 11 games at home.

In the AL West the surging Seattle Mariners look primed to continue their winning ways this week when the visit the lowly Los Angeles Angels.

The Mariners are making a late playoff push after winning eight of their last nine games, which included a three-game sweep of the Angels. Los Angeles can’t buy a win right now and have dropped 10 straight.

On the season Seattle is 5-4 versus the Angels, but they’re only 2-6 in their last eight trips to Los Angeles.

Week 2 in the NFL preseason kicks off on Thursday night with the battle of Pennsylvania between the Philadelphia Eagles and Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers are 3-point favorites. The Eagles began the preseason with a 17-9 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a 3.5-point favorite, while the Steelers lost to the Detroit Lions 30-17 as a 3-point favorite.

In the preseason the Steelers have won their last two against Philadelphia while going 1-1 against the spread. In their last eight preseason matchups the Steelers are 5-3 SU and 6-2 ATS.

Also on the NFL Thursday night slate the Minnesota Vikings face the Seattle Seahawks as a 3.5-point underdog. The Vikings got past Cincinnati 17-16 as a pick’em last week and improved to 10-1 SU and 9-2 ATS in their last 11 preseason games. Seattle edged the Kansas City Chiefs 17-16 as a 3.5-point underdog last week.

The PGA Tour heads to Sedgefield Country Club this week for the Wyndham Championship. The favorite at online sportsbook Bovada this week is 2013 Wyndham champion Patrick Reed at +1400. Other former Wyndham champions in this week’s field include Camilo Villegas at +15,000 and Webb Simpson at +2500.
