Sports Betting Weekend: Tribe Facing O's

A few days ago it looked like this weekend’s matchup between the Cleveland Indians and the Baltimore Orioles was going to be a showdown of division leaders. After the Orioles' recent stumble that may not be the case.

The Orioles host Cleveland starting Friday and heading into the finale of their four-game series with the New York Yankees on Thursday they had lost four straight games. That knocked them down to second place in the American League East standings.

The Indians and Orioles met up once already this season with Baltimore taking two of three games. In their last 10 against Cleveland the Orioles are 8-2 and at home they’ve won four in a row and five of six.

In the National League this weekend the New York Mets and Miami Marlins face off as they battle for the second NL Wild Card spot and try to make up ground in the NL East. The Mets are 5-4 versus the Marlins this season but on the road they’re 3-6 in their last nine against Miami.

Saturday’s game boasts a stellar pitching matchup with Jacob deGrom going for the Mets and Jose Fernandez for Miami. deGrom is coming off a one-hit shutout of the Philadelphia Phillies and in eight career starts against Miami he’s 4-1 with a 2.77 ERA. The last time Fernandez faced the Mets he recorded 14 strikeouts.

Totals bettors might want to circle this game as the UNDER is 7-1 in deGrom’s last eight starts and 6-2 in Fernandez’s last eight starts.

NASCAR heads to Indianapolis Motor Speedway this weekend for the Combat Wounded Coalition 400. Kyle Busch won at Indianapolis last season and he’s the favorite at online sportsbook Bovada at +550.

Jimmie Johnson has claimed the checkered flag at Indy four times, but he’s a +700 underdog to do it again. Also of interest, Jeff Gordon will come out of retirement this weekend to drive the No. 88 car for Dale Earnhardt Jr. Gordon has five career wins at Indy and he’s listed at +900 to add another this weekend.

This weekend’s Formula 1 stop is the Hungarian Grand Prix at Hungaroring. Lewis Hamilton has won the last two races and he’s won four times in Hungary in his career. That’s why he’s the Bovada favorite at EVEN money. Sebastian Vettel won at Hungaroring last year, but he’s a +1200 underdog to repeat.
