UFC on ESPN 5 Betting Odds Preview

The UFC sets up shop at the Prudential Center in New Jersey this weekend for UFC on ESPN 5: Covington vs Lawler.

The main event this weekend is a welterweight bout between Colby Covington and Robbie Lawler. At Bovada Sportsbook, Covington is a -230 favorite and Lawler a +180 underdog.

Covington, the former interim UFC welterweight champ, is 14-1 with two wins by knockout and five by submission. Due to nasal surgery, it’s been more than a year since Covington stepped into the Octagon. He last fought at UFC 225 in June 2018, defeating Rafael dos Anjos by unanimous decision. He won the interim welterweight belt that night but was stripped of the title after his surgery forced him to miss a potential unification bout with Tyron Woodley.

Lawler, also a former UFC welterweight champ, is 28-13 and one no contest, with 20 wins by KO. He’s had a tough go lately, having lost two straight fights and three of his last four. He last fought at UFC 235 in March when he lost to Ben Askren by first-round submission as a +170 underdog.

Miller favored vs Guida despite recent struggles

Also on the main card this weekend is a lightweight bout between Jim Miller and Clay Guida. At Bovada, Miller is a -185 favorite and Guida a +150 underdog.

Miller is a disappointing 2-5 in his last seven fights, dropping his record to 30-13 and one no contest, with four wins by KO and 16 by submission. He last fought in April at UFC Fight Night 150 where he defeated Jason Gonzalez by first-round submission as a -175 favorite.

Guida is 35-18 with seven wins by KO and 13 by submission. He last fought at UFC 237 in May when he defeated B.J. Penn by unanimous decision as a -965 favorite.

Haqparast a -250 favorite over Silva

One other notable matchup at UFC on ESPN 5 is a lightweight bout between Joaquim Silva and Nasrat Haqparast. Haqparast is a -250 favorite and Silva a +195 underdog.

Haqparast is 10-2 with eight wins by KO. Due to injury, he hasn’t fought since last October when he defeated Thibault Gouti by unanimous decision at UFC Fight Night 138 as a -970 favorite.

Silva is 11-1 with six wins by KO and three by submission. He last fought at UFC on Fox 31 in December, defeating Jared Gordon by third-round KO as a -110 underdog.
