The top series getting underway on the diamond early this week has the Angels hosting Texas in a key AL West clash, while Tampa Bay visits Boston, Minnesota is in Detroit, and the White Sox get a visit from Cleveland in other AL action. On the MLB schedule on the weekend it'll then notably be the Yankees at Minnesota, Cleveland at Detroit, Texas at the White Sox, and Arizona at Atlanta.

The Sprint Cup Series has racing at Michigan International Speedway this weekend, with the Pure Michigan 400 on Sunday afternoon. On the links the PGA Tour stages the Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina this week; the Wyndham Championship is the final tournament of the PGA season prior to the start of the FedExCup playoffs. Arjun Atwal won this tournament by a single stroke over David Toms last season.

Finally, there are just two Canadian Football League games on tap for this week, with British Columbia at Edmonton on Friday and Saskatchewan at Toronto getting Week 8 of the season underway on Thursday. The Riders and Argos both lost high-scoring games in Week 7, with Saskatchewan falling 45-35 at home to Calgary, and Toronto getting bounced 37-32 on the road against Hamilton.
