Weekly Sports Betting Roundup: August 8

The PGA Tour will play its final major tournament of the year in an upcoming sports betting week that also includes the start of the NFL preseason, more key series around Major League Baseball, a NASCAR race at Watkins Glen, Week 7 of the CFL season, and UFC Live 5: Hardy vs. Lytle.

Rory McIlroy has been set as the 9/1 favorite at Bodog to win the PGA Championship at the Atlanta Athletic Club this week, with Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods sitting behind him on that odds list at 12/1. Woods returned from injury at the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone over the weekend, but didn't get into contention.

Lee Westwood (14/1), Luke Donald (16/1), Dustin Johnson (20/1), and Martin Kaymer (20/1) are the other top contenders at Bodog to get the tournament win this week.

The NFL's preseason schedule kicks off on Thursday night this week, with Baltimore at Philadelphia (-3), Jacksonville at New England (-4), Seattle at San Diego (-4.5), Denver at Dallas (-3), and Arizona at Oakland (-3.5).

Friday's pigskin slate then has Cincinnati at Detroit (-4.5), Miami at Atlanta (-3), Pittsburgh (-1.5) at Washington, Tampa Bay at Kansas City (-1), and San Francisco at New Orleans (-3), while on Saturday it's Green Bay (-2) at Cleveland, the Giants at Carolina (-1.5), Buffalo at Chicago (-3), Indianapolis at St. Louis (-7), and Minnesota at Tennessee (-3).

Over on the diamond the Yankees will begin an early-week series against the Angels at home on Tuesday night, while the rival Red Sox will be on the road to take on the Twins. Other top series early in the week around Major League Baseball include Detroit at Cleveland, Milwaukee at St. Louis, and Pittsburgh at San Francisco.

On the weekend the baseball schedule will then offer up Tampa Bay at the Yankees, Pittsburgh at Milwaukee, the Mets at Arizona, and Washington at Philadelphia.

The Sprint Cup Series trades in its ovals for a road course this week as NASCAR stages the Heluva Good! Sour Cream Dips at the Glen at Watkins Glen International. Defending champ Juan Montoya will be looking to make it back-to-back wins on Sunday, with five-time Watkins Glen winner Tony Stewart and four-time Watkins Glen winner Jeff Gordon both sitting among the favorites to visit Victory Lane as well.

Around the Canadian Football League this week it'll be Edmonton at Montreal on Thursday, Calgary at Saskatchewan on Friday, and Toronto at Hamilton and Winnipeg at British Columbia on Saturday. Winnipeg remains the most lucrative option on the CFL betting board, covering the spread in all six of their games so far this season.

Finally, this week's major MMA card is UFC Live 5: Hardy vs. Lytle in Milwaukee. Chris Lytle is the -120 favorite in the main event, with Dan Hardy the +100 underdog.
