Betting Trends: NFL Week 2

The second week of NFL betting action is just a few days away. Week 1 provided football fans with a few new trends to follow and there are some long standing trends out there for your handicapping pleasure. Here's a look at some of those heading into Week 2:

Home is where the cash is

Sportsbooks took one on the chin in the opening week of NFL play. With the public always siding with home favorites, those host teams giving the points went 7-1 in Week 1.

Overall, home teams finished 12-4 with big chalk like the Tennessee Titans (-6.5 versus Oakland), New England Patriots (-5 versus Cincinnati), and New York Giants (-5 versus Carolina) coming through for Joe Public. Last season, home faves were 4-7 in Week 2 and host teams finished 7-9 straight up.

Got it down Pats

It's no secret that there's no love lost between the New England Patriots and New York Jets. Even golden boy QB Tom Brady told reporters this preseason that he hates the J-E-T-S. And, if you've been backing New York at home versus New England in recent years, the feeling is probably mutual.

The Patriots have dominated the Jets at the window in the Big Apple, going 10-1 against the spread in their last 11 clashes in New York. New England actually had a 10-game ATS winning streak in Giants Stadium snapped last season when the Jets took a 16-9 win as 3.5-point home chalk in Week 2.

On top of that, the road team in this AFC East rivalry is 19-7-1 in the last 27 meetings. Oddsmakers at BetUS have tagged the Patriots as 1-point road favorites for Sunday's clash with the Jets.

Will this trend continue now that New York has upgraded to the new Meadowlands Stadium?

Under wonders

If you're shopping for a solid play this weekend, the under in the Miami-Minnesota matchup may be the one.

The Dolphins boast a 3-10 over/under mark in their last 13 Week 2 contests, while the Vikings are an impressive 1-10 over/under in their past 11 Week 2 outings.

Miami played under the 38.5-point total in its 15-10 win over Buffalo last weekend. Minnesota stayed under the 48.5-point number in its 14-9 loss to New Orleans on Thursday night. Sunday's total is listed at 39.5 points at BetUS.
