College Football Week 2 Betting Preview

Bettors get a pair of ranked matchups in Week 2 of the college football season and a massive line on the Alabama Crimson Tide.

First up Saturday is a clash between the No. 6 LSU Tigers and the No. 10 Texas Longhorns. The Tigers are a 6-point road favorite at Bovada Sportsbook.

The Tigers started the season last week by crushing the Georgia Southern Eagles 55-3 as a 27-point favorite. They’ve now covered in three straight, but as a road favorite they’re 7-3 SU and 4-6 ATS in their last 10.

Texas cruised past the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs 45-14 as a 19.5-point favorite. Texas is 6-1 straight up and 4-2-1 against the spread in its last seven at home, and as a home underdog the Longhorns have been money at 4-0-1 ATS in their last five.

LSU and Texas haven’t met up since the 2003 Cotton Bowl which Texas won 35-20 as a 10.5-point favorite.

No. 1 Clemson a 17.5-point favorite over Texas A&M

The other ranked matchup on Saturday is the No. 12 Texas A&M Aggies at the No. 1 Clemson Tigers as a 17.5-point underdog.

The Aggies have won five straight at 4-1 ATS after running over the Texas State Bobcats 41-7 as a 33.5-point favorite. As an underdog it’s a different story, as Texas A&M has lost eight in a row while going 3-4-1 ATS.

Clemson beat up on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets 52-14 as a 36.5-point favorite last week. Clemson has won 16 straight at 10-6 ATS, and in September has won its last 18 games with a 10-8 ATS mark.

Last season Clemson edged Texas A&M 28-26 as a 12-point road favorite.

Crimson Tide 55-point chalk vs New Mexico State

The biggest spread in the Top 25 this week belongs to Alabama, with the Crimson Tide pegged as 55-point home favorites vs the New Mexico State Aggies.

Alabama got the season started last week with a 42-3 drubbing of the Duke Blue Devils as a 34-point favorite. The Tide are only 2-4 ATS in their last six, and during their 26-game win streak at home, they’re only 13-13 ATS. In their last four games when favored by 50-plus points, they are 0-4 ATS.

New Mexico State was smoked by the Washington State Cougars 58-7 as a 33-point underdog last week. The Aggies are now 0-6-1 ATS in their last seven, and on the road they’re 1-7-1 ATS in their last nine.

USC 4-12 ATS in last 16 games

Also on tap for Saturday is a Pac-12 clash between the No. 25 Stanford Cardinal and the USC Trojans. USC is a 1-point home favorite.

Stanford has won five straight at 3-1-1 ATS after defeating the Northwestern Wildcats 17-7 as a 6.5-point favorite last week. As an underdog, the Cardinal have lost four straight, but they’re 5-1 ATS in their last six.

USC failed to cover as a 14-point favorite last week in a 31-23 win over the Fresno State Bulldogs. The Trojans are a money-losing 4-12 ATS in their last 16 and they’ve dropped their last three ATS as favorites.

Last season Stanford topped USC 17-3 as a 4.5-point favorite. In their last six games at USC, the Cardinal are 4-2 SU and ATS.
