College Football Week 5 Betting Preview

Week 5 in college football begins Thursday night with a ACC matchup between the North Carolina Tar Heels and the Miami Hurricanes. Miami is an 18-point favorite at Bovada Sportsbook and heads into this one 2-6 against the spread in its last eight and 6-6 ATS in its last 12 at home. North Carolina is 5-1-1 ATS in its last seven and has covered in three straight vs Miami.

There are five Top 25 matchups on the schedule this week, starting with the No. 4 Ohio State Buckeyes at the No. 9 Penn State Nittany Lions as a 4.5-point road favorite. The Buckeyes have won nine straight at 6-3 ATS, but they’re 3-4 ATS in their last seven as a road favorite. Penn State has won 16 straight at home at 9-5-2 ATS, but is 3-7 SU and 4-5-1 ATS in its last 10 as a home underdog.

In another top-10 matchup, the No. 7 Stanford Cardinal face the No. 8 Notre Dame Fighting Irish as a 4.5-point underdog. Stanford is 1-4-1 ATS in its last six road games, while Notre Dame has won eight straight at home at 4-4 ATS. Notre Dame is 7-2 SU but only 4-5 ATS in its last nine at home vs Stanford.

The rest of the Top 25 matchups this weekend include the No. 12 West Virginia Mountaineers at the No. 25 Texas Tech Red Raiders, the No. 20 BYU Cougars at the No. 11 Washington Huskies and the No. 10 Oregon Ducks at the No. 24 California Golden Bears.

Mountaineers favored by 4.5 points at Texas Tech

West Virginia is a 4.5-point road favorite and in its last seven as a road favorite is 3-4 ATS. Texas Tech is 1-11 SU and 6-6 ATS in its last 12 as a home underdog, and the Red Raiders are 4-2 ATS in their last six vs the Mountaineers.

BYU is a 17-point underdog and has won five straight ATS on the road. Washington is only 2-6 ATS in its last eight games and at home has won 10 straight SU while going 5-5 ATS.

Oregon is a 3.5-point road favorite but has dropped five straight ATS and the Ducks have lost four in a row SU and ATS on the road. California is 1-8 SU and 2-7 ATS in its last nine vs Oregon.

Also on tap this weekend, the Oklahoma Sooners are 24-point home favorites vs the Baylor Bears. Oklahoma is 1-5 ATS in its last six when favored by 20 points or more, and in the last 10 at home vs Baylor is 9-1 SU and 2-8 ATS. The Bears are 2-7 SU and 4-4-1 ATS in their last nine road games.

Finally, the Clemson Tigers host the Syracuse Orange as a 22.5-point favorite. Clemson faced Syracuse last season as a 23.5-point favorite and lost 27-24. Syracuse heads into the weekend 1-7 SU and 6-2 ATS in its last eight road games, while Clemson has won 10 straight at home at 5-4-1 ATS.
