NFL Week 2 Betting Preview and Trends

Week 2 of the NFL season gets started Thursday with what could be a dud, as the Houston Texans visit the Cincinnati Bengals.

Both sides will be looking to rebound after losing as favorites in Week 1. The Bengals are a 5.5-point favorite at the Bovada Sportsbook but they’re an awful 1-7 straight up in their last eight versus Houston and 2-7 ATS in their last nine. The Texans’ recent road record doesn’t exude confidence though, as they’re 2-6 SU and ATS in their last eight.

Shifting to Sunday, two other Week 1 losers meet up in New Orleans as the Saints play host to the New England Patriots as a 6.5-point underdog. The Patriots are 4-1 SU in their last five versus New Orleans but only 2-3 ATS, and they’re 2-7 ATS in their last nine matchups. The Patriots do boast an eight-game road winning streak SU during which they are 7-1 ATS. The Saints do well as home underdogs at 4-2 SU and 5-1 ATS in their last six.

The Jacksonville Jaguars surprised with a win as an underdog in Week 1 and they’ll go for another this week as a 2-point underdog at home versus the Tennessee Titans. The home team has won the last five between Tennessee and Jacksonville, and the Jaguars are a solid 9-2-2 ATS overall in their last 13 against the Titans. At home Jacksonville is 5-1 SU and 5-0-1 ATS in their last six against Tennessee.

The biggest spread this week is the San Francisco 49ers at Seattle Seahawks game with Seattle as a 13-point favorite. The Seahawks have won seven straight against San Francisco at 6-1 ATS, and at home they’ve won nine straight ATS. On the road overall the 49ers are 2-16 SU and 4-13-1 ATS in their last 18.

This week’s Sunday nighter sees the Atlanta Falcons host the Green Bay Packers as a 3-point favorite. Betting the OVER on the total might be the smartest bet here as Green Bay is 7-1 OVER in their last eight road games and Atlanta has gone OVER in 10 straight at home. In the matchup Atlanta has won the last two SU and they’re 3-1 ATS in their last four.

Week 2 concludes Monday night with the Detroit Lions at the New York Giants. The Giants are a 4.5-point favorite but the visitor has dominated this matchup at 7-3 SU and 8-2 ATS in the last 10. However, overall New York has won six in a row at home at 5-1 ATS. Detroit is 0-3 SU and ATS in their last three on the road.
