NFL Week 5 Betting Preview and Trends

Fresh off a big upset win last week, the Carolina Panthers go for another in Week 5 when they visit the Detroit Lions as a 3-point road underdog at Bovada Sportsbook.

The Panthers have won four straight against the spread on the road after last week’s upset win in New England. Carolina is 5-1 straight up in its last six against Detroit, but only 2-4 ATS. The Lions are a solid 7-2 SU and 6-3 ATS in their last nine at home and after covering last week they’re 3-1 ATS in their last four.

The Tennessee Titans and Miami Dolphins are both looking to rebound from difficult losses when they meet up in Miami this week. The Dolphins are a 3-point underdog and hope home-field advantage helps as they are 5-1 SU and 4-1-1 ATS in their last six home games. Tennessee was embarrassed 57-14 as a 2.5-point favorite last week versus Houston, and owns a lackluster 3-7-1 ATS record in the last 11 as a road favorite.

A back injury to quarterback Derek Carr could derail the Oakland Raiders this week when they host the Baltimore Ravens. Following a loss last week, the Raiders have dropped two in a row SU and ATS, but they have won their last five at home while going 4-1 ATS. The Ravens are awful on the road at 1-6 SU and 2-5 ATS in their last seven, but in their last 13 versus Oakland they’re 10-3 SU and 9-4 ATS.

The game of the week could be an NFC West showdown between the Seattle Seahawks and Los Angeles Rams. The Rams are a 2-point favorite and have a surprising 3-2 record SU and ATS in their last five versus Seattle, with all three wins coming as the underdog. The Seahawks posted their first ATS win of the season last week, but they’re still 1-4 ATS in their last five and on the road they’ve lost six straight ATS.

On Sunday night, the Kansas City Chiefs, the last remaining undefeated team, visit the Houston Texans as a 3-point favorite. The Chiefs are also a perfect 4-0 ATS this season, and on the road they’ve won eight straight SU and ATS. Houston is on a three-game ATS winning streak, all as the underdog.

In this week’s Monday nighter, the Chicago Bears host the Minnesota Vikings as a 3.5-point underdog at Bovada Sportsbook. The Vikings are 1-6 SU and ATS in their last seven road games. Chicago is 1-7 SU in its last eight games, but 4-4 ATS. The Bears are 7-1 ATS in their last eight as a home underdog.
