NFL Week 5 Betting Preview and Trends

NFC South teams coming off upset wins square off Sunday when the New Orleans Saints host the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

At Bovada Sportsbook, the Saints are a 3-point favorite. Last week New Orleans was a 2.5-point home underdog in a 12-10 win over the Dallas Cowboys. That was only the Saints’ second win against the spread in their last nine games. When favored, the Saints have lost six straight ATS.

Tampa Bay shocked the Los Angeles Rams 55-40 as a 9-point underdog last week. Tampa Bay has now won its last two road games straight up as the underdog, and in their last 13 on the road the Buccaneers are 6-5-2 ATS.

The Saints and Bucs split the season series last year with each winning on the road. In their last eight games in New Orleans, the Buccaneers are 2-6 SU and 3-5 ATS.

Chargers favored by 6.5 points over Broncos

In the AFC West on Sunday, the Los Angeles Chargers appear to have been given a gift as they face the struggling Denver Broncos as a 6.5-point home favorite.

The Chargers defeated the Miami Dolphins 30-10 as a 15-point favorite last week to post their first ATS win of the season. Los Angeles is only 2-4-1 ATS in the last seven as a favorite, and at home the Chargers are 1-4-1 ATS in their last six.

Denver has lost eight straight at 1-7 ATS. As a road underdog, the Broncos are 1-9 SU and 2-8 ATS in their last 10. However, in their last eight road games vs the Chargers, they’re 6-2 SU and ATS.

The road team won and covered in both matchups between Denver and Los Angeles last season.

Ravens 2-9 ATS in last 11 games as favorite

Sticking with divisional matchups, AFC North rivals clash Sunday when the Baltimore Ravens face the Pittsburgh Steelers as 3.5-point road favorites.

Baltimore has lost three straight ATS following last week’s 40-25 loss to the Cleveland Browns as a 7-point favorite. When favored, the Ravens are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 games.

Pittsburgh posted its first win of the season last week, getting past the Cincinnati Bengals 27-3 as a 3.5-point favorite. In their last seven games as an underdog, the Steelers are a profitable 6-1 ATS.

Last season the road team won both matchups between Baltimore and Pittsburgh SU and ATS. In their last five games against Baltimore, the Steelers are 4-1 SU and 2-3 ATS, but at home against the Ravens, they’re 0-4-1 ATS in their last five.
