With your season on life support, who better to take the mound than a doctor.

Roy Halladay gets the ball for the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 5 of the NLCS, trusted with keeping the team's postseason alive after going down 3-1 in the series to the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday night.

Halladay came up short in his Game 1 start, allowing four runs over seven innings pitched in a 4-3 defeat. Doc has had troubles with the Giants all season. In April, he was knocked around for five runs in seven innings in a 5-1 loss at AT&T Park, and he has a 5.79 ERA versus San Francisco coming into Thursday's game.

The Giants counter with their ace Tim Lincecum, who outperformed Halladay in Game 1. The two-time Cy Young winner gave up three runs on six hits through seven innings. He was 10-7 with a 3.40 ERA at home this year and pitched a complete-game shutout against the Atlanta Braves the last time he toed the rubber at AT&T Park.

Sportsbooks opened Game 5 with the Phillies as slight -105 road favorites facing elimination, while the Giants are a tempting +108.

Andy's dandy

Eagles head coach Andy Reid told the media that Kevin Kolb would remain the starter heading into Week 7's showdown with the Tennessee Titans. Kolb was impressive against the Atlanta Falcons last Sunday, leading Philadelphia to a 31-17 win as a 1-point home favorite. He was 23 for 29, passing for 326 yards and three scores. Supposed No. 1, Michael Vick, is still recovering from a chest injury suffered two weeks ago but is available in Week 7.

Kolb's performance is a big reason why the Eagles are short underdogs in Tennessee, getting a field goal from oddsmakers. However, Kolb will be without top receiver DeSean Jackson, who is out after taking an ugly hit from Dunta Robinson last weekend.

Hometown boy Eddie Alvarez climbs in the cage with MMA notable Roger Huerta for a non-title lightweight bout at Bellator 33 from the Liacouras Center on Thursday night. Alvarez, who is riding a five-fight winning streak, is expecting a huge boost from the friendly crowd. Sportsbooks have priced him as a -240 favorite over a struggling Huerta, who has dropped three of his last four bouts.

The Flyers welcome the Anaheim Ducks to Wells Fargo Arena on Thursday night. Philadelphia has lost its last two games and is having a hard time finding the back of the net. It has scored just four total goals in its three losses this year including a 5-1 defeat to the rival Penguins last Saturday.

The team moved around its power-play unit earlier this week in hopes of sparking the special teams. Slumping center Mike Richards, who only has three assists on the year, was replaced by defenseman Chris Pronger on the top power-play line. The Flyers' power play is just 2 for 22 this season and ranked 24th in the NHL. Books have Philly listed around a -190 home fave for Thursday's game.
