Super Bowl 55 Betting Odds Preview

Tom Brady returns to the Super Bowl for the 10th time in his career, but his Tampa Bay Buccaneers are underdogs to Patrick Mahomes and the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs in Super Bowl 55.

At Bovada Sportsbook, the Chiefs are a 3.5-point road favorite in Super Bowl 55. We say road favorite because this is essentially a home game for the Buccaneers, who become the first team to play the Super Bowl in their home stadium with this year’s game at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa.

Chiefs favored in Super Bowl 55 over hometown Buccaneers

The Buccaneers advanced to the Super Bowl by getting past the Green Bay Packers 31-26 as a 3-point underdog last week in the NFC championship game. That was their seventh straight win, during which they are 5-2 against the spread. At home this season, Tampa Bay was 5-3 straight up and ATS. As a home underdog, the Buccaneers are 1-6 SU and 3-3-1 ATS in their last seven.

In the playoffs, Tampa Bay is 6-2 SU and 5-3 ATS in its last eight games. As a playoff underdog, the Buccaneers have won four straight and they’re 5-2 ATS in their last seven.

Kansas City has won 11 straight games on the road

The Chiefs advanced to their second consecutive Super Bowl by defeating the Buffalo Bills 38-24 as a 3-point favorite in the AFC title game. With that ATS win, the Chiefs are 1-8-1 ATS in their last 10. On the road, the Chiefs have won 11 straight at 6-4-1 ATS, which includes going 0-3-1 ATS in their last four.

The Chiefs have won five in a row in the playoffs with a 4-1 ATS record. On the road in the playoffs, the Chiefs haven’t been as good at 3-9 SU and 4-8 ATS in their last 12. Last season in Super Bowl 54, the Chiefs defeated the San Francisco 49ers 31-20 as a 1.5-point favorite.

Chiefs edged Bucs in Tampa in Week 12

In Week 12, the Chiefs visited Tampa and beat the Buccaneers 27-24 as a 3.5-point favorite. In that game, Kansas City jumped out to a 17-0 lead in the first quarter. Tampa Bay made it close with 14 unanswered points in the fourth quarter.

Prior to that Week 12 loss, the Buccaneers had won five straight against the Chiefs. At home to the Chiefs, the Bucs are 4-1 ATS in their last five games. In this matchup, the favorite is 7-2 SU in the last nine games, but only 1-4 ATS in the last five.
