Travelers Championship Betting Odds Preview

The PGA Tour heads to Cromwell, Connecticut, this week for the Travelers Championship at TPC River Highlands.

At Bovada Sportsbook, the co-favorites this week in the Travelers are Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler, both at +1000. Both are coming off solid showings at last week’s U.S. Open.

McIlroy finished tied for fifth place last week and now has five top-five finishes in his last seven tournaments. TPC River Highlands has regularly favored long drivers, which could be a boon for McIlroy, who is among the tour leaders off the tee this season.

McIlroy, Scheffler share top odds to win Travelers

Scheffler came up just short in the U.S. Open, tying for second place one stroke back of winner Matthew Fitzpatrick. That was Scheffler’s second runner-up finish in his last three tournaments, after he also placed second in the Charles Schwab Challenge, and gives him six top-five finishes so far in 2022. With Fitzpatrick not in the field this week, Scheffler will be the top finisher from the U.S. Open at River Highlands.

Following McIlroy and Scheffler on the Travelers Championship odds and rounding out the top five are Justin Thomas at +1200, Patrick Cantlay at +1400 and Sam Burns at +1800.

Thomas, Cantlay and Burns all failed to crack the top 10 at the U.S. Open last week, with Cantlay delivering the best finish among the trio by tying for 14th place. Before the U.S. Open, Cantlay had cracked the top three in three of his previous four tournaments.

Thomas, this year’s PGA Championship winner, had three top-five finishes in his last four tournaments prior to the U.S. Open. Burns had also had a lot of success on the tour leading up to the U.S. Open with four top-four finishes in seven events, including wins in the Valspar Championship and the Charles Schwab Challenge.

English has struggled to follow up 2021 triumph

The defending champion of the Travelers is Harris English. Last year at River Highlands, he recorded his fourth career PGA Tour win after shooting 13 under par and defeating Kramer Hickok in a playoff.

English has not posted a win on the tour since and has had a rough 2022 with only one top-10 finish in nine tournaments. At Bovada, English is a +10000 underdog to win again this week, while Hickok is a +17500 long shot to challenge for the top spot on the leaderboard again.

Along with English, there are several other former Travelers winners in the field this week: 2019 winner Chez Reavie (+12500), 2017 winner Jordan Spieth (+2200), 2016 winner Russell Knox (+10000), 2014 winner Kevin Streelman (+10000) and 2012 winner Marc Leishman (+5000).
