Tyson vs Jones Jr. Betting Odds Preview

2020 has seen a glut of 1990s nostalgia and it’s invaded the boxing world as Mike Tyson and Roy Jones Jr. are set to meet up in the ring this weekend.

Tyson and Jones will square off in an eight-round exhibition at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Not only will the fight be shorter than normal at only eight rounds, but the rounds will also be shorter at two minutes. The fighters will also wear 12-ounce gloves instead of the traditional 10-ounce gloves.

At Bovada Sportsbook, Tyson is the favorite at -200 and Jones is a +160 underdog.

Tyson favored despite absence from ring for 15 years

Tyson, who is 54 years old, hasn’t fought professionally since June 11, 2005, when he lost to Kevin McBride after retiring from the fight in the sixth round. Known for his powerful knockouts, Tyson was 50-6 and two no contests with 44 wins by KO in his boxing career.

It hasn’t been nearly that long since Jones last stepped into the ring. Jones, 51, last fought professionally when he faced Scott Sigmon on February 8, 2018, winning by unanimous decision to finish his boxing career with a record of 66-9 and 47 wins by KO.

There are also several interesting props and exotic bets for this fight at Bovada. The usual fight props are there, including “Will a point be deducted during the fight?” (No is favored at -600), “Will either fighter win the fight in the first 60 seconds?” (No is heavily favored at -1800), and “Will both fighters be knocked down?” (No is favored at -900).

Since Tyson is involved, there is of course a prop about biting at Bovada. “Will Mike Tyson have a point deducted for biting Roy Jones Jr.?” is available with No at -100000 and Yes at +2000. For good measure, they’ve also thrown in an Evander Holyfield prop. “Will Mike Tyson mention Evander Holyfield in the Post-Fight Interview?” has Yes favored at -175.

Former Slam Dunk champ an underdog in boxing debut

Tyson vs Jones Jr. isn’t the only fight on the card this weekend. There’s also Nate Robinson vs Jake Paul. Yes, former NBA Slam Dunk champion Nate Robinson. At Bovada, Paul is a -210 favorite and Robinson a +170 underdog.

This will be the first boxing match for Robinson, who is 36 years old and last appeared in an NBA game in 2015.

Paul, a YouTube star, made his professional fight debut earlier this year against another YouTuber, AnEsonGib. Paul won by first-round TKO.
