Akron grabbed a 72-57 win over Southern on Sunday, behind a 21-point effort from Tyler Cheese at James A. Rhodes Arena.
Xeyrius Williams had 15 points for Akron and Channel Banks chipped in with 14 points. Loren Cristian Jackson had 6 assists for them, while Deng Riak was the team's top rebounder, grabbing 7 boards.
Southern got a 18-point performance from Amel Kuljuhovic, who was supported by 13 points from Montese Blake. Micah Bradford had 4 assists in a losing cause for Southern, while Amel Kuljuhovic grabbed 6 rebounds.
Akron had a 35-27 advantage in the rebounding department as they won the battle in the paint.
Next game, Akron takes its act home to face Concord College looking for another win. For Southern, they head on the road to face Wright State.
