Recap - Winthrop Defeats UNC Asheville 104-71
The battle between Winthrop and UNC Asheville didnt turn out to be much of a battle at all as UNC Asheville was handed a 104-71 defeat on Saturday at Winthrop Coliseum.
Chase Claxton had 19 points for Winthrop and D.J. Burns chipped in with 17 points. Kyle Zunic had 9 assists for them, while Micheal Anumba was the team's top rebounder, grabbing 9 boards.
UNC Asheville got 21 points from LJ Thorpe in a losing cause and another 19 points from Lavar Batts Jr.. Lavar Batts Jr. contributed 3 assists for them, while Tajion Jones had 6 rebounds.
Winthrop was winning at the break before taking care of business in the second half.
Winthrop won the battle of the boards, outrebounding their counterparts 42-25.
Winthrop heads into a battle against Campbell. UNC Asheville, meanwhile, will have their next action against USC Upstate.
