Hokies vs Monarchs Final: 31-17 - Recap
The Hokies were Week 2 winners on Saturday, coming out on top of the Monarchs by a score of 31-17 at Lane Stadium.
Virginia Tech did not, however, defeat the Monarchs against the spread, which closed at -28.5 at most sportsbooks. Totals bettors, meanwhile, saw the game go UNDER the closing number of 56.5.
Deshawn McClease rushed for 64 yards, while Ryan Willis added 34 yards in the win. Tayvion Robinson and Tre Turner added 62 and 60 receiving yards respectively.
Lala Davis rushed for 81 yards for Old Dominion, while Kesean Strong added 51 yards. Stone Smartt threw for 122 yards for the Monarchs, while receivers Steven Williams and Jake Herslow had 36 and 31 yards respectively.
Virginia Tech outgained Old Dominion 403-324 yards in the game, while the battle of first downs was won 21-19 by the Hokies.
The time of possession battle favored Old Dominion as their offense was on the field for 33:20, longer than the 26:40 of their opponents.
Next game, Virginia Tech takes its act home to face Furman looking for another win. For Old Dominion, they head on the road to face Virginia.
