Recap - Owls Defeat Southern Miss 24-19

The Owls were Week 5 winners on Saturday, coming out on top of the Golden Eagles by a score of 24-19 at Rice Stadium.

The Owls were a -1.5-point favorite in the win, and managed to turn a profit for their supporters. The combined score dipped UNDER the total, which closed at 44.5.

Cedric Patterson III rushed for 38 yards, while Ari Broussard added 25 yards in the win. Jake Bailey and Jack Bradley added 83 and 47 receiving yards respectively.

Frank Gore, Jr. rushed for 79 yards for Southern Miss, while Dajon Richard added 14 yards. Jake Lange threw for 304 yards for the Golden Eagles, while receivers Jason Brownlee and Antoine Robinson had 127 and 57 yards respectively.

Rice lost the offensive yardage battle to Southern Miss 378-325 yards in Saturday's game. Southern Miss had more first downs as that total ended up 21-15.

Rice led the time of possession tally, as the game finished as a 31:41-28:19 split in that important category.

Next game, Rice takes its act on the road to face UTSA looking for another win. For Southern Miss, they head home to face UTEP.
