Rainbow Warriors Fall 35-28 Against Vanderbilt - Game Recap
Vanderbilt earned a 35-28 victory over Hawaii on Saturday in Week 1 action at FirstBank Stadium.
Vanderbilt won on the scoreboard, but lost at the pay window as they failed to cover the -17.0-point spread. The game went OVER the consensus closing total of 54.5.
Patrick Smith rushed for 30 yards, while Chase Gillespie added 13 yards in the win. Jayden McGowan and Will Sheppard added 72 and 68 receiving yards respectively.
Landon Sims rushed for 38 yards for Hawaii, while Tylan Hines added 15 yards. Brayden Schager threw for 351 yards for the Rainbow Warriors, while receivers Pofele Ashlock and Steven McBride had 127 and 98 yards respectively.
Vanderbilt lost the offensive yardage battle to Hawaii 391-297 yards in Saturday's game. Hawaii had more first downs as that total ended up 19-17.
Vanderbilt lost the time of possession battle 30:51-23:57, leaving their defense on the field more than they wanted.
Vanderbilt looks to continue their winning ways next game with a battle against Alabama A&M. Hawaii will aim to get back on the winning track vs. Stanford.
