Illinois Defeats Toledo 30-28 - Recap
The Fighting Illini grabbed a Week 1 victory over the Rockets on Saturday, winning 30-28 at Memorial Stadium.
The Fighting Illini earned a straight-up victory but suffered an ATS defeat in failing to cover the -7.5-point spread. Over-Under bettors who played OVER the total of 45.5 were rewarded with a winning wager.
Luke Altmyer rushed for 69 yards, while Reggie Love III added 58 yards in the win. Pat Bryant and Casey Washington added 64 and 54 receiving yards respectively.
Jacquez Stuart rushed for 82 yards for Toledo, while Dequan Finn added 75 yards. Dequan Finn threw for 230 yards for the Rockets, while receivers Junior Vandeross III and Jerjuan Newton had 80 and 51 yards respectively.
Illinois lost the offensive yardage battle to Toledo 416-374 yards in Saturday's game. Toledo had more first downs as that total ended up 28-20.
The time of possession battle favored Toledo as their offense was on the field for 32:57, longer than the 25:37 of their opponents.
Illinois heads into a Week 2 battle against Kansas. Toledo, meanwhile, will have their next action against Texas Southern.
