Las Vegas - Jeff Capel sat on Coach K's left for like seven years as the assistant head coach, so they know each other pretty well. Capel has been a solid head coach, not Hall of Fame worthy like his mentor. He was 79-41 at Old Dominion, 96-69 at Oklahoma and is sitting at 36-38 with Pittsburgh. Doesn't sound like a super run, but this season, the Panthers are 7-2 and have just completed back-to-back wins over Syracuse. It was 63-60 up at the Carrier Dome in New York, but a wicked 96-76 blowout at home inside 'The Pete.' So, Pitt seems to be clicking, while Duke has not really started to hum. The Blue Devils come in off a 74-67 loss to Virginia Tech, but more disturbing is their UGLY 1-7 record against the spread. Probably gonna be a tight squeeze, but we gotta take the points with Pittsburgh (+4), and sip on a glass of champagne, or Justin Champagnie, when the final buzzer sounds.
