Home Run Derby & MLB All-Star Odds

Major League Baseball has reached the All-Star break, which begins Monday night with the Home Run Derby. Can two-time Home Run Derby winner Pete Alonso hit enough bombs in Seattle to claim a third title?

As expected, Alonso is a +300 favorite to win the Home Run Derby at the Bovada Sportsbook. Alonso won the Derby in 2019 and 2021 but came up short last year going for No. 3 when he fell to Julio Rodriguez in the semi-finals. At the break Alonso has 26 home runs which ties him for second in the National League, and ties him for the lead among Home Run Derby participants.

Alonso will face Rodriguez in the first round of this year’s Derby in a highly-touted rematch. Alonso is a -180 favorite in that first-round matchup and Rodriguez is a +125 underdog.

Following Alonso on the Home Run Derby odds are Vladimir Guerrero Jr. at +375 and Rodriguez at +450. Both sluggers have previously finished second in the Derby. Guerrero Jr. finished second in 2019 behind Alonso. Guerrero’s power numbers are down this season as he has only 13 home runs, the second fewest among Home Run Derby participants, but he continues to put up impressive exit velocities. Guerrero Jr. will face Mookie Betts in the opening round and he’s a -215 favorite in that matchup.

Rodriguez seeks Home Run Derby victory at home

Rodriguez finished second behind Home Run Derby winner Juan Soto last year. Rodriguez also has 13 home runs this season in what has been considered a disappointing first half. He put on a show in Los Angeles last year which included upsetting Alonso before running out of gas in the final versus Soto. He’ll have home field advantage in Seattle and if he wins he would join Bryce Harper as the only players to win the Home Run Derby in their home park.

Along with Alonso the home run leaders in the Home Run Derby field this year are Luis Robert Jr. and Betts, who both have 26 home runs. Robert Jr. is listed at +500 to win, while Betts is a +1000 underdog. This will be the first Home Run Derby for both players.

The rest of the Home Run Derby participants are all first-timers and include Adolis Garcia (+650), Randy Arozarena (+950), and Adley Rutschman (+1600).

On Tuesday night in the All-Star Game the American League are slim -115 favorites, while the National League are -105 underdogs. The AL has dominated the All-Star Game recently with nine straight wins, including a 3-2 win in Los Angeles last year. The last time the All-Star Game was held in Seattle in 2001 at then Safeco Field the American League won 4-1.
