Scottish Open Betting Preview

Golf bettors will turn their attention across the Atlantic Ocean this week as the PGA Tour and DP World Tour pros head to Scotland for their final Open tune up at the Scottish Open.

This year’s Scottish Open is once again being held at the Renaissance Club in North Berwick, Scotland. At the Bovada Sportsbook the favorite is World Golf Rankings No. 1 Scottie Scheffler at +700, as he continues to be one of the most consistent golfers on the planet with six straight top-five finishes. During that streak he’s cracked the Top 3 four times and in his last tournament the Travelers Championship in late June he tied for fourth. Last year at the Scottish Open Scheffler turned in a rare bad performance and missed the cut.

Following Scheffler on the Scottish Open odds are then Rory McIlroy at +800 and Patrick Cantlay and Xander Schauffele both at +1400.

Lately McIlroy has been in contention regularly with five straight top-10 finishes on Tour. He tied for seventh at the Travelers and is still looking for his first win of 2023. McIlroy last played in the Scottish Open in 2021 when he missed the cut.

Cantlay, Schauffele seeking win in Scotland this week

Cantlay posted his sixth top-10 finish this year at the Travelers by tying for fourth place. He was in contention at last year’s Scottish Open and ended up tied for fourth place there as well.

Schauffele is the defending champion of the Scottish Open. He shot seven-under par at Renaissance last year to best Kurt Kitayama by one stroke. At the Travelers Schauffele finished tied for 19th but in his last nine events he’s finished in the Top 10 six times.

One other former Scottish Open winner that could be a good value pick this week is Rickie Fowler at +1600. Fowler won the Scottish Open in 2015 when it was held at Gullane. Fowler has leapt back into the contender conversation lately by winning the Rocket Mortgage Classic and finishing in the Top 10 in four of his last five tournaments.

Along with Schauffele and Fowler other former Scottish Open winners in the field this week include 2021 winner Min Woo Lee (+3000), 2020 winner Aaron Rai (+6500), 2017 winner Rafa Cabrera-Bello (+25000), 2016 winner Alex Noren (+10000), and 2014 winner Justin Rose (+1400). From that list of winners only Lee and Rai won at Renaissance.
