Wolfpack Down Virginia 35-31 - Match Report
Hollywood Smothers tore up the turf for 140 rushing yards on Saturday to lead the Wolfpack to a 35-31 win over the Cavaliers at Carter-Finley Stadium.
NC State won and also put money in the pockets of their supporters by covering the -2.5-point spread as favorites. Totals bettors, meanwhile, saw the game go OVER the closing number of 53.5.
Hollywood Smothers rushed for 140 yards, while CJ Bailey added 44 yards in the win. Terrell Anderson and Justin Joly added 44 and 41 receiving yards respectively.
J'Mari Taylor rushed for 150 yards for Virginia, while Chandler Morris added 56 yards. Chandler Morris threw for 257 yards for the Cavaliers, while receivers Jahmal Edrine and Trell Harris had 68 and 52 yards respectively.
NC State lost the offensive yardage battle to Virginia 514-416 yards in Saturday's game. Virginia had more first downs as that total ended up 24-22.
The time of possession battle favored Virginia as their offense was on the field for 32:25, longer than the 27:35 of their opponents.
Next game, NC State takes its act on the road to face Wake Forest looking for another win. For Virginia, they head home to face William & Mary.
