cincy derby

Las Vegas - Cincinnati starter Nick Lodolo started the season on a heater, allowing only 2 earned runs over 18 innings in his first three starts. Then Lodolo had two lousy starts, giving up 7 earned over 9 innings. But he bounced back strong in his last outing, throwing 7 innings worth of bagels at the Rockies and allowing only 2 hits while posting 9 Ks. And since the Nationals are ugly on the road (5-11 not including last night), we'll throw a handful of chips at the Reds.

My man Martin Calia is my horse guy and here's his take on the Derby...

Kentucky Derby 151 will be a race for firsts no pun intended! Since 1986 ( Ferdinand ) no horse has won from the dreaded one post. Citizen Bull has the one post but will actually break from the gate in post two. He will be gunning for the lead from the inside and trainer Bob Baffert said as much. With the track sloppy from the rain he might be able to get the lead and rate the pace. If so look out! The other first and my top pick is Luxor Cafe. He is a Japanese runner sired by American Pharoah, a Triple Crown winner. No Japanese horse has ever won the Derby but this horse has a great shot . He comes off a four race win streak and has a fantastic turn of foot. So it’s $100 win/place/show on #7 Luxor Cafe and a $10 exacta wheel 7 with all. As a saver bet it’s $20 win/place/show on #1 Citizen Bull and a $5 exacta wheel 1 with all.

Good luck!
