Las Vegas - Typed in Boyd...then the word pitcher, and the results came up with Dennis 'Oil Can' Boyd. Not the Boyd I was looking for, but do remember 'Oil Can' as one of the most charismatic players back in the 1980s. He played most of the decade with the Red Sox and was always a quote machine. Our favorite is the one he gave to the press after a game was postponed at Cleveland's Municipal Stadium due to fog from Lake Erie. When asked about it, Boyd responded, "That's what you get for building a ballpark on the ocean." Even though 'Oil Can' was a hoot, it was Matthew Boyd of the Cubs that we were looking for. After a rather lackluster 10 year career with a rather ugly 46-69 record with Blue Jays, Tigers, Mariners and Guardians, Boyd, not the 'Can,' seems to have found a home on the North side of Chicago with the Cubs. Matthew is sitting at 10-3 with a gorgeous 2.34 ERA. Must be the drinking water at Wrigley. Boyd's last four starts have been amazing, with four straight wins, 26 innings pitched and 2 earned runs allowed for a sick 0.69 ERA. Bank of Benj is ready for a deposit courtesy of the Cubbies.
