Las Vegas - The Quantrill family has been around MLB for years, starting with daddy Paul all the way back in 1992. He played for seven teams and was just a little below average. His kid Cal is WAY better. Cal is sitting on a 14-5 record this season with a 3.42 ERA. But the funny thing about those five losses is, they all happened before July 11th. Since that point, young Quantrill has ripped off TEN straight wins, and is one of the reasons that the Guardians won the A.L. Central.

He has won four in a row, and allowed only two earned runs over the last 20 innings. That's a 0.90 ERA and you can throw in 31 Ks over those 20 frames, yea, THIRTY ONE!

When you look at the Kansas record, 4-0 straight up and against the spread, you might think, like Dorothy in the 'Wizard of Oz,' "Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas anymore. If you had Kansas at FOUR & OH before the season started, bravo. I did not. However, the new regime led by Lance Leipold, has started to rock. Who is this guy Leipold? I'll tell ya.

Sampson has been quite a find for the Cubbies and one of the reasons that they've won seven of the last eight (not in including last night). In particular, Sampson's last four starts have been close to perfection. He threw 24 innings and allowed only three earned runs for a svelte 1.13 ERA. We love the way Chicago is closing the season, but can't say the same about Cincy.
